What Are The Key Food Groups To Gain Muscle

  • Posted on May 30, 2017 at 5:16 pm

In order to gain muscle you must consume enough calories for your muscles to grow. The food that you eat should provide for energy, repair and regeneration, along with triggering growth. The main problem most people have when trying to gain muscle is that they are simply not consuming enough calories and are therefore hindering their progress.

Quality Nutrition

If you had a high performance car, would you fill it with dirty fuel? Of course you would not. So why fill your body with poor quality food like double cheese burgers and fries? In order to gain muscle and maximize potential growth your body needs high quality food, consisting of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals.

Protein is needed to build muscle tissue and strength and to supply extra energy to the body during workouts. Protein can be consumed in the form of red meat, chicken, turkey, egg whites and fish. These protein sources are all easy for the body to digest and use and are all a necessary component in helping you to gain muscle.

Carbohydrates and good fats provide the body with both physical and mental energy needed when embarking on a strenuous workout program. The best sources of carbohydrate are rice, potatoes, beans, pasta, wholegrain cereals and a large variety of vegetables.

These carbohydrates all contain fiber and vitamins that the body needs for proper digestion. Not all carbohydrates however are created equally. Refined carbohydrates like bleached white flour products have lost much of their nutritional value, for example, pies, cakes and white bread all have large amounts of refined sugars and fats. These products, along with candy and fizzy drinks, should be limited as much as possible. Excessive refined sugars can be easily converted into fat and can easily hamper your attempts to gain muscle.

Excess fat should be removed from the food that you eat. Simply, trimming the fat off the cuts of red meat, removing the skin from poultry and separating the egg yolk from the egg will help to bring the amount of fat that you eat to a manageable level.
By eating good wholesome food using the examples that we have discussed your quest to gain muscle should be made easier. You may find it a little difficult at first to increase your calorie consumption but bear in mind that your body will find it easier to use these calories when they are eaten in 5 moderately sized meals rather than the traditional 3 square meals a day.

Just remember, I am not saying that you can never indulge in another slice of pizza ever again, just consume those foods that you love so much in moderation and remember, the better quality food that you consume, the better those biceps will look!

Hospital Trauma (Part 1) Falling and Other Mishaps

  • Posted on May 30, 2017 at 2:19 pm

Every hospital has risk assessment and fall prevention protocols, yet every hospital has patients falling out of bed, while walking, during transfer, from a chair, from the portable commode, from the toilet, from a seated position, while taking a shower, and while dressing. A great many of those accidents result in serious and sometimes fatal injuries, such as hip fractures, skull fractures, brain hemorrhage, rib fractures, and the like.

In a court case, the question of liability rests with whether the fall was preventable. Most cases are the result of negligence where the staff members dropped the patient, forgot to put up the side rails, or failed to answer the call buzzer in a timely manner. Nonetheless, given the current state of affairs, hospital personnel cannot prevent all falls.

Thus even if a nurse takes all reasonable precautions and answers the call bells immediately, the patient could still plunge to the floor and no one person is legally to blame. Yet every accident has its cause and effect, so even when there is no specific negligence according to current standards, it is socially irresponsible to accept a certain percentage of falls as inevitable. And it seems especially irresponsible if it’s you or someone you love who has fallen.

Hospitals need further investigation to find out what design flaws exist or what is lacking in the patient’s environment that allows a sick person to slip out of bed undetected until the staff members hear the awful sound of someone hitting the floor or crashing into one of the furnishings and/or equipment items. Motion sensor and video surveillance technology has become wireless and inexpensive. With such devices, an alarm would go off every time a patient at risk placed an arm or leg off the bed. These patients would be mostly ambulatory elderly to whom the nurses gave instructions to call for assistance before getting out of bed.

Meanwhile, if you as the patient or family member as an advocate engage the staff and express your concern about the dangers of falling, this will heighten their awareness. Likewise, hospital management can also help to reduce incidence of falling by launching education campaigns warning new patients and family members about the possibility of falling and teaching what steps to take to maintain safety. They should hand out pamphlets and put up signs in the lobby and all the corridors. Fall prevention needs to be a cooperative effort between patients, family, and hospital executives and staff.

Glycerol – An Effective Alternative Animal Feed

  • Posted on May 30, 2017 at 12:58 pm

Nowadays, the demand of biodiesel has increased a lot which has resulted into the huge production of glycerol or glycerin as a byproduct. When refined a large part of this quantity goes to industrial manufacturers. The remaining part mainly gets wasted due to high costs of refining. This problem of wastage has created a lot of issues among biodiesel producers. In a bid to resolve this issues, various research programs have been conducted to bring out other possible uses of the chemical. Now it has been found that this waste may be used in agriculture and livestock as an alternative source of energy.

In the past few years, the prices of animal feed have increased a lot due to which livestock farmers are now looking for alternative feeds that will cost them less. A large number of pork producers are shifting to the employment of byproducts produced by bio-fuel manufacturers as source of alternative animal feed. Ethanol is one of these byproducts and widely used as an effective animal feed. Moreover, alternative sources do not depend on ethanol. As there is huge production of biodiesel, which means there is also a huge production of glycerol, the byproduct of biodiesel. The wasted product when nowhere found place now being used in livestock as an alternative energy source.

Generally, the commercial manufacture of biodiesel encompasses 100 pounds of fat or oil, which is mixed with 10 pounds of methanol. This generates output of 100 pounds of biodiesel. The remaining 10 pounds is crude glycerol. In this way, there has been huge production of several millions of tons of biodiesel which eventually results into manufacture of several hundreds of tons of crude glycerol. A large part of this is used in cosmetic and other pharmaceutical applications being used by people.

Nowadays, researchers are also working on a project deriving the possibility to test that the chemical can be actually used as an animal feed or at least an energy substitute for cows and pigs. Corn is considered as the major energy source employed by livestock growers. In a bid to figure out the possible advantage of glycerol, which emerges out as a potential alternative that is way cheaper, livestock owners are gradually turning to this option. According to recent studies it has been found that the substance from biodiesel yields an amount of energy that is actually similar to that of corn. In association to this, people have been consuming the compound since its utilization in food and drugs.
